Eva, a rare white panther, is desperate to avoid her family and their expectations. Hundreds of years of tradition force her to run to the newly appointed Queen only to find her gone. Re: The Author Behind The Pages
What made you decide to write erotic paranormal romance?
I didn’t start out thinking I was going to be writing in the erotic PNR genre. I just thought my writing was just regular PNR, but people who read it started classifying it as such. I’m okay with that and happily accept the classification.
If you had to choose another genre to jump into, what would it be?
I have a short story that is contemporary erotic romance so I would say I’m starting to test the waters a bit. I am in love with PNR and all the possibilities and will probably never completely leave the genre. Maybe after I finish my Koning clan series I may write a few YA stories. The younger members of my family have asked me to write something for them. ;-)
Who are your role models with regards to life as an author & your writing? Have you met them yet?
I have to say I would love to meet Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken. I love how she blends sexy and funny, she writes her characters beautifully and each one is unique. Her world flows effortlessly and you fall in love with each lead character in her books. I would probably gush about her writing or have a fit of giggles humiliating myself if I ever met her.
What do you do to get into your “zone” when you’re trying to fill pages & create a new world?
Writing is emotional for me. Kind of like foreplay *wink*, I have to be in the mood to connect with my characters and their world. I do my best to keep on top of my normal stress and leave myself to just my writing.
Do you have any quirky habits that you have to do when you’re writing? A certain spot/chair/seat, a certain song you have to listen to before getting started, a drink, etc.
Yeah I have a chair I like to sit in. I don’t listen to music during writing but before I start to get myself in the mood. The type of music depends on the scene I want to write. Something fierce for a fiery one, or something heartfelt for something swoon worthy.
Re: The Koning Clan
Tell me a little bit about your Koning Clan Series.
The truth is I wanted to give people a sample of my writing in a way I could control so I decided to self pub my first book Transforming Love. I like that I can control the price and giveaways. I was so excited, I rushed the writing a bit but I feel like my style has come a long way since then.
How many books do you anticipate will complete the series?
I love to read series that don’t go on forever. I’m thinking about five or six books altogether, ending with Kane’s book.
What are the first five words that come to your mind when you think about Escaping Love?
Sweet, heartwarming, sexy, self-discovery, funny
Transforming Love (book 1 in the series) was great! I loved the characters & can’t wait to meet more of your characters. Do your characters interlace from one book to another?
Will we see some of the characters from Transforming Love in Escaping Love? The characters do overlap. I really try to focus on the new couple. You will see more of old faves and learn more about the character’s pasts.
What made you want to write about shifters?
I love magic and the thought that there are things undiscovered in the world. I guess a part of me wished the worlds from book were real. I wanted to create a world that existed right along ours. The places in my books are based off of real locations from around where I grew up.
Where did you get the idea to create such an amazing world & set of characters? A dream? A passing thought? A light bulb moment? A fantasy?
I would definitely say a dream and fantasy. I dream really vividly and sometimes my stories are born from them.
Is there a character in Escaping Love that you connect with most out of everyone? Someone’s whose PoV flows effortlessly while you’re writing or someone who you just can’t get enough of? Or simply someone who won’t shut up and constantly invades your mind even when you’re not writing? Ha.
Truthfully I seem to connect easiest with my male characters. Their motivation comes easier to me. Maybe it’s because I spend more time fantasizing about them, er. I meant plotting.
Are any of your characters or events in the Escaping Love based upon real life situations/events?
The ranch in Wyoming is bases on my Grandparents ranch so it was really easy to visualize and describe. When I wrote the story I was in the mood for sweet and steamy and I think Clint fits that bill. His inspiration was Gary Taylor.
On a scale of 1 (being Antarctica) and 10 (being Hell on earth), how HOT do you consider the scenes in Escaping Love to be?
I think that the majority of the scenes are about a 7, the last one in the book is probably a 8. Because of a little extra heat. It’s so hard to say cause everybody differs.
Do you have a favorite scene that you’d like to share a tiny bit about? Just a teensy little excerpt or quote?
Alex’s eyes burned with unshed tears. She didn’t know why she was crying but she guessed it had a lot to do with the surprisingly sweet gestures from the male beside her. He just kept surprising her with well…surprises. The good ones, not the ones you had to pretend to like to spare someone’s feelings. She bit her lip, trying her best to control her crazy emotions. At one minute she felt helpless when it came to her situation and the next she felt as if she were a kite being blown about by a soft breeze with Clint as her anchor.
Lame, she knew it but it was the best way she could describe her feelings. She clasped his hand. The silence kept dragging on between them while she grasped for something to say.
“I just don’t have the words.”
“Yeah, leaves you kind of speechless. Huh, darlin’?”
“Yes, it does.”
“Well just wait a minute the best is yet to come.”
She snorted. “Is that some sort of sexual innuendo?”
“Naw, just look. It’s starting.”
“Shooting stars—” Awe and wonder heavy in her voice. “I’ve never seen one before.”
“Pick any one you want and make a wish.”
She tried to track all the little pieces streaking in fiery brilliance across the night sky. They seemed so close she was tempted to lift her hand to see if she could catch one. Wishes were for children and naive women, but at that moment she didn’t give a crap. She picked the brightest one, squeezed her eyes shut, and wished with all of her heart.
Everything she wanted played like an old black-and-white movie through her mind. Her, Clint, two kids—a boy and girl, heck even Old Gus was there with them. Their kids were playing in front of the guest cabin where she first made love to Clint. Her heart ached with the severity of her wish. She coveted it like something precious and despite her plan she would keep the memory with her always tucked safe in the most secret part of her heart.
“What did you wish for?”
“This.”
Alex cupped his cheek and brushed her mouth over his, taking her time to taste the sweetness of his lips. His faint stubble tickled her chin while she continued. She wanted to show him how she felt through her actions. To make him realize how much all of their time together meant. Even though they had spent less than a week together it felt like the beautiful beginning of a lifetime.
